棕刚玉磨料以铝矾土为主要原料经高温熔炼而成。呈棕褐色，硬度高、韧性大。用其制造的磨具，适用于碳素钢、可锻铸铁、硬青铜等的磨削。此外在耐火材料、化工添加剂、精密铸造及防滑材料等方面也有广泛应用。
